BA(Hons) Housing Studies

  • Holder of Foundation degree in Arts in Housing (FdA degree); or
  • Completion of Higher Diploma in Housing or related study; or
  • Completion of other qualification and experience within the industry e.g. Higher Diploma in Real Estate Management, Professional Diploma in Practical Property and Facilities Management plus relevant working experiences, e.g. working experience in Housing, Facilities Management, Property Management, Real Estate; or
  • Any form of certificated learning which is at HKQF Level 4 will be deemed acceptable, e.g. professional body membership (Member of Chartered Institute of Housing, Member of Hong Kong Institute of Housing, Member of the British Institute of Facilities Management, etc.) plus relevant working experience; or
  • Mature students of at least 21 years of age with working experience who can show evidence of project undertaken, roles, duties and responsibilities in relevant industries (e.g. housing, property management, facilities management, real estate management, building services, etc.) will be considered on case-by-case basis. Applicants will normally be interviewed and applicants should pass the interview.

BEng (Hons) Building Services Engineering

  • Completion of a Higher Diploma / Hgher Certificate / Associate Degree pitched at HKQF Level 4 in science, mathematics and engineering disciplines or equivalent;or
  • Completion of BTEC National Diploma, Extended Diploma or BTEC Diploma or any International Diploma, International Advanced Level or equivalent; or
  • HKDSE results meeting 120 UCAS new tariff points, including the “Complusory Part” and the “Extended Part” of Mathematics totalling 40 UCAS new tariff points, and one science subject; or
  • Mature applicants aged 21 or above with relevant work experience will be considered on case-by-case basis. Applicants will normally be interviewed. The interview will be conducted in English and applicants should pass the interview.

MSc Building Services Engineering

  • at least a second class honours degree in a cognate subject of Building Services Engineering; or
  • at least a second class honours degree in a non-cognate subject supported by evidence of an aptitude for the subject applied for, for example, the work experience and non-credit bearing training. A face-to-face interview will be conducted to assess candidates’ potential; or
  • mature applicants aged 21 or above who demonstrate academic potential will be considered on case-by-case basis. Admission is subject to (a) evidence of academic study, for example, completion of an access course; or (b) relevant work experience in Building Services Engineering field at assistant engineer or technical officer level, or equivalent; which is equivalent to the expected level of study. All non-standard entrants will be interviewed to assess the suitability for the course.

  • A recognized honours degree or equivalent; or
  • Completion of other qualification e.g. chartered surveyors, hospitality professionals, of full corporate membership or equivalent; and
    Relevant working experience within the industry e.g. engineering field, property management, real estate, health and environmental management which demonstrates that applicants possess knowledge and skills relevant to aspects of facilities management at a senior level; or

MPhil (Master of Philosophy) / PhD (Doctor of Philosophy)
  • The University’s minimum entry requirement for a research degree is either a first degree with upper second class honours or a first degree with second class honours plus a Masters degree or international equivalent. During your studies you will be expected to carry out a critical investigation of an approved research topic. You may choose between an MPhil and PhD. Doctorates are awarded to candidates who have demonstrated the creation and interpretation of new knowledge through original research. For the MPhil award the demands of originality are less than those for PhD. The minimum period of part-time registration for PhD is 3 years and for an MPhil 30 months. Students who have completed the minimum period of registration may apply to transfer to writing up status. The final assessment is based on a written thesis and a viva voce (oral) examination.

  • Admission to the program will be competitive and on the basis of a completed undergraduate degree from an approved institution, with relevant qualifications in the following disciplinary areas:

    • property, building, quantity surveying, construction management, construction economics, facility management; and/or
