They creatively apply scientific principles to design the buildings we need, and focus on aspects of buildings such as:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Safety:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Daylight and artificial lighting<\/li>\n<li>Escalators and lifts<\/li>\n<li>Ventilation and refrigeration<\/li>\n<li>Security and alarm systems<\/li>\n<li>Fire detection and protection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Efficiency<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reducing carbon emissions and environmental impact<\/li>\n<li>Energy supply and use<\/li>\n<li>Communications networks<\/li>\n<li>Fa\u00e7ade engineering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Comfort<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heating and ventilating<\/li>\n<li>Water, drainage and plumbing<\/li>\n<li>Air conditioning and refrigeration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"large-paragraph\"><strong>Building Services Engineers Bring Buildings to Life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Imagine yourself in\u00a0the most fabulous building\u00a0in the world. Now take away the lighting, heating and ventilation, the lifts and escalators, acoustics, plumbing, power supply and energy management systems, the security and safety systems. You are left in a cold, dark uninhabitable shell. Building Services Engineers really do \u201cbring buildings to life\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine the air filtration systems you'd need in a clean computer manufacturing facility. The heating controls in a special care baby unit?\u00a0 The airflow systems needed to control bacteria and humidity in an operating theatre?\u00a0 What about security systems at an airport or in the Headquarters of MI5?\u00a0 Lighting the Olympic Stadium?\u00a0 Coping with a power cut in the dealing room of a City banker? This is everyday work for a building services engineer.<\/p>\n<p>At any sports event, think about what the spectators and athletes are experiencing.
