MSc Lift Engineering
(Distance Learning)
awarded by The University of Northampton, UK
Course Features
- Accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)
- Composed of compulsory and elective (designated) taught modules, together with an independent research Case Study and the MSc dissertation.
- The learning materials are available and students communicate with tutors on-line via the Northampton Integrated Learning Environment (NILE) which is the institutional virtual learning platform providing access to web based and web enhanced courses at the University of Northampton.
Introduction to the Course
The MSc Lift Engineering course will benefit lift engineers and consultants as well as members of senior management in the lift industry. You will gain an in-depth understanding of advanced technical issues arising in lift design, maintenance and contract management. The programme teaches the skills required in electrical and mechanical science, together with mathematics and other engineering areas associated with the lift industry.
This degree has been accredited by IMechE under licence from the UK regulator, the Engineering Council. Accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by the Engineering Council in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). An accredited degree will provide you with some or all of the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for eventual registration as an Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng). Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries that are signatories to international accords.
Course Structure
For the MSc award students must accumulate 180 FHEQ level 7 credit points. The compulsory modules cover the fundamental areas that are essential to lift engineering, including the codes and standards to which lifts and their design must adhere. Option modules allow you to pursue your particular interests and specialise within the industry.
The following modules are offered (The modules relating to the academic year 23/24 will be available from June 2023.):
