Smart Safety and Risk Monitoring

This course explores how smart technologies - including IoT sensors, AI video analytics, Vision-Language Models (VLM), and autonomous patrol robots - can strengthen safety and risk management in construction and facility management sectors. Through practical applications such as IoT bamboo putlog monitoring, smoke and heat detection, temperature monitoring, and intelligent site surveillance, participants will learn to identify risks earlier, respond faster, and maintain clearer safety records. This course is accepted by The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity.

Course Objective:Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental concepts and applications of IoT, AI video analytics, and Vision-Language Models (VLM) in construction and facility management.
  • Identify and assess potential risks in various environments, such as construction sites, warehouses, and confined spaces.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of smart monitoring systems, including IoT scaffolding sensors, smoke and heat detection, and temperature control systems.
  • Appreciate the role of advanced technologies, such as autonomous patrol dogs combined with VLM, in providing 24/7 intelligent monitoring and decision support.
  • Apply the concepts of "See earlier, Respond faster, Record clearly" to improve safety management protocols and compliance with industry standards.
Speaker:Ms. Carmen Wong serves as the General Manager of REC Green Technologies Limited (RGT). Her company specializes in energy-efficient solutions, smart building technologies, and the application of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. Driven by a commitment to sustainability, she actively champions green building initiatives and the adoption of intelligent building management systems across public and private sectors in Hong Kong. Ms. Wong also contributes to industry development as a member of the Business Environment Council (BEC) Energy Transition Advisory Group.
